Velvet Hills 50th Anniversary Show - Gold Is In The Air
Velvet Hills Chorus is the award-winning Colorado Springs chapter of Sweet Adelines International, with its rehearsal venue - Harmony Hall - located in Colorado Springs at 3815 N Academy Boulevard. The women of Velvet Hills have been performing and entertaining in the Pikes Peak Region for 50 years, singing 4-part a cappella harmony, barbershop style, a classic American art form.
The chorus, led by its dynamic director, Kathy Carmody, is comprised of more than 80 vibrant local women who collaborate to make extraordinary music. As winners of the Sweet Adelines Region 8 Competition in the spring of 2014, Velvet Hills Chorus will be competing in Las Vegas in October in the Sweet Adelines International Competition.
In celebration of its 50 year anniversary, the Velvet Hills Chorus is presenting a show - Gold Is In The Air - at 2pm on Saturday, September 19, in Armstrong Hall, 14 E Cache La Poudre, on the campus of Colorado College in Colorado Springs. Featuring a flight through its history, charter members and chorus directors will be honored, with the popular quartet - Very Light Opera Company (VLOC) - as Mistresses of Ceremony.
In addition to a performance by Velvet Hills Chorus, guest performers include America The Beautiful Chorus, the men's barbershop chorus in Colorado Springs; Pikes Peak Singers, a group from the Colorado Springs Childre's Chorale; and four quartets. Before and after the show and during Intermission, there will be a Silent Auction in the Lobby open to all; and following the show, the public is invited to stay for the Afterglow.
